Weekly Highlights Jan 21, 2013-Jan 27,2013

Monday. So today Sister Hinkle decided to be a good little girl and send her loved ones the packages that have been sitting on our apartment floor the last....1 month;P. We showed up at the post office innocent little girls having NO IDEA how much shipping costs....Well Sis. Hinkle hopes you enjoy the packages because they will be the last ones you get! Needless to say she spent more money on packages then we both have on food this month. HAHA-Sis Bohne :)

Later that night we went over to Family Cziniock's for dinner. Like little slackers we had been so focused on the 72€ packages we had failed to think about the spiritual thought that we would be giving. It is a good thing that on a mission we are always in 3; both missionaries and the spirit. It is a good thing that Monday the spirit did not take a p-day and had been thinking about a lesson. As we opened our scriptures we felt prompted to read 1 Nephi 19:23 and then do what we did with Sister Glen the week before. As we asked Denny to ask a question, then open the scriptures, the spirit filled the room. The question that Denny asked is should I go on a mission? A question he has been thinking about for the last few months. As he opened the scriptures he landed on Moroni 8:2 My beloved son, Denny,(we had him put himself in the scripture) I rejoice exceedingly that your Lord Jesus Christ hath been mindful of you, and hath called you to his ministry, and to his holy work. OH MY GOODNESS......Stuff like this only happens with the spirit!!! We love serving with the spirit!

Tuesday: ''Holy Toast Batman, we got a package!''<-(Sister Hinkle) Sister Bohne got the lovely package filled with vitamins and Stevie sent be her mother. Still Sister Hinkle has a problem with the post office....Sister Bohne is utterly confused as to why... ) :P

Also had a wonderful appointment with Laarni. We went over the Baptismal Questions for the first time with her. She was totally solid except with the idea of coming to church every Sunday. After bearing our testimony's about church we explained we would focus more on it during our appointment on Sunday.

Wednesday: Today we talked with Sister Braukhof (The Oma of Sister Bohne here in Germany) We talked about eternal families, and were able to bear our testimony of gratitude about the decision of our parents being sealed for eternity! It is crazy how your own testimony is strengthend as you bear testimony...Sister Hinkle is now super marriage hungry...JK JK JK HAHAH-Sister Bohne

We also met with Regine at the church. As we sat down and were getting ready to teach she told that we should play a game....way to throw a wrench in the missionary style... but that is ok Sister Bohne and Sister Hinkle were prepared. We ended up playing a roundhouse story game. This is were we all take turns drawing a part of a picture as we tell a story. Once again the 3rd member of our companionship took over, yep the spirit played to. The story was of a women who was sitting outside one day when she found a book under a tree, can you guess what book?!?! As she read in this book she ended up going on a journey. In the middle of her journey she was standing on a BIG rock (Helaman 5:12). As she was on this big rock a storm came and tried to knock her off. Well long story short she stayed on the rock and then ended up reading Moroni 10:3-5. She went into a pretty meadow knelt down and followed the council in Moroni. At this point we just started having a conversation with Regine. It was super cool to hear her testimony of the Book of Mormon and how it has been helping her as she reads in it. She is making so much progress, solid progress!!!

Thursday: As always we had district meeting but, today was special, we ate breakfast too! French toast, AMERICAN SYRUP (snuck off a military base) and fried potatoes! YUMMY! We had a great time and we got to know each other better. We also received a referral from the Elders.

We got a call from office that Sister Bohne should go and get her drivers license. This time we only waited 3 hours in the DMV, I guess waiting in the DMV line is an international thing.

We then went on a treasure hunt to find the Martenz family. It was an adventure! We went to a few different homes, met some really nice people and eventually found the Martenz family. They had no interest but it was fun.

Friday: Oh my goodness AMAZING appointment with Family Bastan-mehr! Fatima got on line to show us some pictures of her family, and ended up on facebook. We were not sure at this point how we were going to pull it back into a lesson. As she showed us some pictures she went on a Sister Missionaries facebook page where this sister missionary was playing by the Conference Center in Salt Lake City. She asked what that beautiful building was and we were then able to get on to lds.org and have her listen to a conference talk in Farsi! IT WAS PERFECT!

We were invited to Families Wiehe's for dinner. Sister Wiehe was the only one at home. This time we were prepared. We wanted to talk about eternal families at the end. So like GOOD little missionaries we lead the dinner conversion in the direction of her eternal family. As we finished eating Sister Wiehe asked us if we had a few minutes to watch a short home movie and see pictures of her husband who passed away from cancer. It was touching to see the love she had for him even after all the years apart. But is was even more faith building because of the peace she had about the past, and the hope she has for the future because of the covenants they had made. We bore testimony about how much our family means to us especially our mothers. We shared Alma 56:47-48.

It was one of the most mother/daughter type lessons that we have ever taught. The love of God was in the room with us. Sister Wiehe is one AMAZING women.

Saturday: Had a great lesson with Laarni about why coming to church was so important. We were able to bring Cynthia Fuch as a joint teach. Cynthia is 19 years old and headed out on her mission to the Alpine mission in a few months.

The lesson went so well. The spirit was strong. Cynthias testimony was perfect. And tomorrow you will read if she came or not... HAHA

Sunday:........ So we came to church. Guess who was also there. Yep the stake President. Daniel also showed up again for the 2nd time! Olivia Wiehe, daughter of the Sister we had dinner with, also came!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then as we were singing the intermediate hymn a member came up to us and told us that there was an investigator sitting outside.....LARRNI!!!! WOOT WOOT!

Highlights from last week

Hello everyone!

Alrighty then, last Monday was fantastic! We got together with 16 other missionaries. That was a ball! (pun intended). There were only 4 of us sisters so we played together. It was so much fun. The best part was the bowling shoes. They were red, white, and blue. We all decieded we should by them and make a missionary fashion statement....but it never happend.
As we walked to the train station we saw some people moving into a house. So naturally we offered our services. They turned us down which is to bad because they would of been finished moving in about an hour. It was a really fun day, which is what preperation days are supposed to be.

Tuesday.
We met with Regine at the church house. Sister Hinkle got her first hug from her! Whoot whoot! Huge progress there. Sister Bohne recieved a new jacket from Regine. It was too small for Regine. We sang hymns together and Sister Hinkle attempted to play a hymn or two. She is getting better at it.
We met with an investigator named Laarni. She is from the Phillipeans. (Side note, she makes the best food ever!) She has been taking the missionary discussions for 3 months now. Up until a few weeks ago she wasn't making much progress. Two weeks ago she started really praying and reading the scriptures! She understands so much. We shared with her how much she has really learned and how much she has changed in 3 months. Then Sister Hinkle invited her to baptism. She said she would but that we would set a baptisimal date later. AHHHHHH! We were so excited! Laarni just has become more happy and is really showing her personality now.
Later that night we went to the De Silva family's house. They don't hardly speak German and we know maybe 5 words of spanish. So we had a German lesson and used the Book of Mormon  and the Hymns to learn new words. It was really really fun. They are the most loving family ever.

Wednesday.
The morning was spent in deep relection as we studied and studied with many insights and conections. We then went to Tafel. What fun and joy to be of service to all of the girls and boys. When Tafel was over there was food still to be found. So we sister decided to carry a bag of oranges around. We had an appointment with the Mansour family. So we hid the bag of oranges in a line of trees you see. We went to the Mansour's and had a good lesson. There was a lot of progress made as we wrapped up our lesson. We left with a smile and walked to the trees. We found our bag of oranges right where we thought they'd be. When we got home we finished our day with a nice glass of orange juice that we had earned that day.

Thursday.
We did our normal routine of study and sport. We were then ate lunch with a delightful member named Sister Mensen. She is fantastic! She makes us stirfry every time we come and it so delicous that we are happy to come. We sang the hymn "Lead kindly light" and we read Psalms 119:105. It is now one of Sister Hinkle's personal favorites. Sister Mensen was on a commity to help translate the english hymns into German. Cool Beans! We got home and did some weekly planning.  We then went to Ward Council. That was actually quite fun. We brought chocolate chip cookies but somehow they tased German. Don't know how that happend.

Friday.
Today we had a Zone training meeting. It was really interesting and our Mission President was truely inspired to say what he said.  We practiced teaching eachother and it was really fun. We learned a lot that day.

Saturday.
Saturday was a day of miracles. Sister Bohne and I have been waiting for our Christmas packages to get here. So we decided to pray for a package from home. We knew it was a little selfish but we both know that God answers prayers. So we met with Sister John and had a lovely appoiontment. She is a sweet soul.  We then came home for lunch and to check our mailboy. There was nothing inside. We then went to Mirja's to talk about this stake mission party that we want to do. We want to do a Western night with BBQ, three legged races and line dancing (naturally). Mirja made the best looking program ever! It was a very productive meeting and it just makes us want to work that much harder to get it going. We then went to Sister Glen's for dinner. She had made an American  Thanksgiving dinner. Gravy and all! Then for dessert we had rootbeer floats. With A&W rootbeer! Whoot Whoot! As we were drinking them Sister Glen said "Isn't it nice to get a taste of home?". Sister Bohne and I looked at eachother and realised that God had answered our prayer for a package from home with a can of rootbeer. Tecnically 2 because she gave us each one to take home. That was a really big testimony builder. God does answer our prayers, just sometimes not in the way we expect.
Later that night we went to the De Silva's again with a joint teach. Norman (our joint teach) speaks German, English and Spanish. We held a Family Home Evening with them. Language barriers are fun.

Sunday.
We went to church and as we sat in the chapel Laarni walked in!!!!!!! We were blown away! This is the first time she has come to church! So exciting! Laarni and Bertha De Silva became fast friends. Laarni invtited all of us to come over to her house for dinner. Bertha said yes!!  We had a lunch appointment with the Wittkopp's. They have the coolest house and they are totally family oriented. It was way fun. They have the coolest house. We shared Helaman 5:12 with them.It talks about building on a solid foundation. I just love it. We asked them if there was anything we could do for them and they actually gave us a service project and not food! YAY! So on Wed. we are going over to help them do sanding.
We went to Laarni's with Bertha, her 3 children and her sister. It was a blast we had so much fun. We watched a film called Finding Faith in Christ. The spirit was way strong I just love it. I just love watching the faith of those we are teaching grow as we add the friendsip of members!

So those are the highlights from last week. Hope you enjoyed them!

Happy New Years

So I took a lot of this from Sister Hinkle, but loved the idea of doing a day be day update.

Okay so here is an update from the Highlights of this last week:

So Monday was New Year's eve. Holy WOW! It is so crazy! We literally thought that cars were exploding and people were shooting guns! The don't have firework laws in Germany. People just buy whatever size firework they want and light it. Like I said..CRAZY!  We ate dinner with our ward Mission Leader and his family.

Okay so we had a great night and we watched people light fireworks at 8pm. They were actually setting off fireworks all day long. Seriously. We went to bed like good little missionaries and woke up at 12 with the sound of world war 3 outside. It looked awesome but whoa! They have a tradition that you eat a Berliner (Jelly filled doughnut) at midnight...it was sweet!

Tuesday was a walking in the rain day(yep I sung too). We tried door to door but every one was still asleep even at 2pm. So we left notes with a lot of people and street contacted. It was really productive and a lot of fun.

Wednesday. Every Wednesday we help out at Tafel. It's like a food bank. It is a great experience to practice German and talking to random people. We always have the best stories to tell at the end of it.

We met with the Mansour family, and it was a fantastic lesson. We really have a great relationship now and I know they will make progress. The mother is a less active member and her twin sons are not members. They are a great family and I can't wait to see the progress they make as they come to know our Savior.

We also taught Esmerlda today, it was one of the best lessons that we have had in a long time! The spirit was strong, it is now just up to her to choose to accept what she is learning.

Thursday was a fun day as well. Every Thursday we have District meeting and we have 2 new elders in our district due to transfers.

We met with an investigator named Laarni. She has two sons one who is 5 and the other 1. She is the sweetest person ever! She is making so much progress!!! We sat down and answered a lot of questions she had as she was reading in the Book of Mormon. She told us that she was striving to do all these things, reading in the scriptures, praying, coming to church, etc so that her sons would also do it when they got older. There is a joy that fills you from head to foot that is indescribable when you realize on a mission that the lessons that you are teaching are truly affecting generations.

Friday. We went to teach Esmarelda this morning but she wasn't there....We has a feeling like something was wrong but were not sure what it was.

We had a supper great weekly planning session and I know it was super productive.

Later that night we met with the cutest lady. her name is Sister Glen. She is the sweetest, honest, funniest and most spiritual lady I have ever taught. She always makes us feel at home. She has a daughter that lives in Alpine, so she comes to Utah every now and then. I am excited for you to be able to meet her!

We've been working at helping our Young Single adults build relationships with those that are struggling a little with their testimony. So we set up a YSA Basketball night at the church. It was SO MUCH FUN! I think we got more of a work out from laughter than basketball!

Saturday. We went to back to Esmarelda's and her husband tschüssed us. He told us that she didn't want to meet with us anymore. It hurt but that just proves how much we care about her. I think we just need to give her some time, and then get someone in there that is truly able to communicate in Spanish.

We taught Sophia a new member about fasting. She had a lot of questions and it was a great lesson.

We then met with Mirja and told her about this finding idea that we have. Mirja is in the R.S. presidency and is an RM. She liked the idea of a stake western night. We are going to try and pull it off sometime in March.

We met with Larrni tonight and made mushroom soup and talked about the time line of the Book of Mormon. She was confused between the different Nephi's and such. It was a supper great appointment. She is making progress!

Sunday. We picked up the Mansour family and brought them to church and they enjoyed it and the ward was stoked to see them

We ate lunch at the Czenioks. I just LOVE that family so much. I really hope that you get to know them one day! We talked about inspiration, and I used the scripture dad gave me as I was struggling with the idea of coming on a mission in D&C 6:22-23

Verily, verily, I say unto you, if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things. Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God?

I was able to bear my testimony that God really does answer prayers, and that as we open our hearts God will lead us. I promised them that as we strive to unit our will with the will of God He will gave us the strength to be able to do so.

Then we went to a Laarni's again, (our goal with progressing investigates is to have as much contact as possible, daily if possible) She had made us an spinach soup with bread is was so good, but we were SO FULL. I am amazed that we didn't explode! Some times I think on a mission you are more filled with food then with the spirit. However we are super thankful for all those that take the time out of their lives to make sure that we are physically taken care of. I often wonder to myself what would happen if ever member in our church was treated like the missionaries....I don't think we would have any inactive members. I also realize that I have been blessed with SUPER wards on my mission starting first with Eisenhüttenstad and now Langenhorn.

Well I am not sure what I can say beside that. I am learning so much and am so thankful to be on a mission. There are lessons I am learning every day that would be harder to learn when not being so focused on the Gospel. I am thankful that I was allowed to come out. To serve my God full time as I serve those around me. I would not change this experience for anything, and that is because it will change everything. I know this gospel is true! I know that God lives, that He loves me. I know that Jesus is the Christ, the son of our Father in Heaven. I know that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. That he saw God and Christ. That through him God sent up his church on the earth. I know this, I testify of it, and I strive every day of my life to live it.

I hope you have a wonderful week! Good luck to all those who start school up again!

-Sister Kimberly Bohne
